Ghouls
Ghouls have been a classic example of true horror that can occur when a spirit is separated from a body as they become nothing more then blank monsters that have no desire, ambition or motivation to do the most basic things in life. In retrospective, Ghouls show us just how important our spirits truly are.
What is it ?:
Ghouls are creatures that are created by the forceful or indeed consensual removal of a spirit from a living creature. Once the spirit has been removed the being will undergo “Ghoulification”, during which their eyes will sink deep within their skull, their skin will tighten to the point where all veins and nerves will be visible, and their minds devolve to a more blank, mindless and basic instinct base state. In terms of appearance, Ghouls often look malnourished, anorexic and monstrously deformed as seen by their jaws which have broke away at the middle, in addition during Ghoulification all traces of gender based characteristics have disappeared as well as both the testosterone and the estrogen within newly made ghoul. It is important to note that the Ghoulification process is irreversible even if the spirit is placed back within the body, this is because the body has undergone a completely horrific and violent transformation of which their is no undoing, the only way to “cure” a Ghoul is to lay the spirit to rest and to kill the Ghoul by destroying the brain.
Where does it live?:
Since Ghouls are mindless beasts with only the most basic of instincts, they mainly wander through nature and avoid heavily crowded populations as if they were some kind of plague. The reason for their “social anxiety” isn’t known, however a common theory is that Ghouls are somehow able to see spirits and are afraid of them, this is believed to be why they strike from the shadows and flee when something chases or even approaches them. In terms of domicile, Ghouls like many beasts prefer to live within places that are left untouched like abandoned mines, caves, factories and so on, however some have been know to take up residence in abandoned homes, scrapyards and there was even large infestation of them on the scrap world “Camarriss”.
What does it do?:
Apart from forfill it’s basic needs, Ghouls don’t really do much of anything, and that’s the point. The entire idea behind a Ghoul is that it is stripped of it’s uniqueness, personality, wants and desires which leaves it as a bare and basic creature, it eats, it sleeps and shits but apart from that it does nothing. The Ghoul’s “Lack of Life” is the reason why many great galactic philosophers have used it in their teachings, one of the most famous being Lleyiam’s “Without challenge in our beliefs, opinions and faiths, we shall be no better then Ghouls”.
How to kill it?:
Unlike most beasts, Ghouls are extremely easy to kill as their movements are easy to dodge for a skill beast hunter and their bodies are extremely weak requiring very little force in order to penetrate and draw blood. Usually a single bullet to the brain or repeated strikes to the head will serve to kill a Ghoul.
Different Types of Ghouls:
1. Camo-Ghouls- are a type of Ghoul that is so basic, grey and blank that living beings are unable to see it. In some detail, Camo-Ghouls can be looked upon by living beings, however as soon as they look away they will forget what they have just seen, while it isn’t completely understand why this occurs the ability is undeniable as not a single Camo-Ghoul has ever been documented or dissected. Although Camo-Ghouls have never been fully seen, observed and even researched, a depiction based on a famous Ghoul portrait was illustrated and labelled as a “Looming grey shape that move without purpose and emitted a stench on unimportant”.
2. Extremmas- are Ghouls that were exposed to “The Extremma Virus” when an In-Synch testing facility exploded during The Administration Age. In short, The Extremma Virus would induce rapid but specific mutations in the muscles, bones, blood and parts of the brain with the end goal of creating a new breed of super soldier which would then be sold to the highest bidder, however due to some inside tampering the testing facility for Extremma exploded, releasing the virus into the wild. As a result the Ghouls that were exposed to Extremma are 3x as tall, 3x as wide and 3x as violent as a regular Ghoul, in addition while most Ghouls do nothing, Extremmas are hunters and seemingly take pleasure in their kills. Additionally exposure to The Extremma Virus has seemingly cause the Ghouls that were exposed to it to devolve even further as Extremma are only capable of quadrupedal movements.
3. Ghoulies- are Ghouls that despite their spirit being removed have managed to partially retain their ability to speak and think as well as a sense of who they once were which includes personality traits, habits and memories, unfortunately their bodies have still undergone Ghoulification I’ll be it to a lesser degree. While Ghoulies manage to retain a small part of who they once were and even form a life for themselves, they are prone to feral episodes in which they will violently attack anything and everything around them, after the episode has finished the Ghouly will wake up with no memory of what happened. Due to their feral episodes and the average civilian not knowing the difference between Ghouls and Ghoulies, most Ghoulies form communities underground or upon abandoned planets, in fact there are even rumours of a Ghouly settlement hidden near a Deus Vault on the planet “Morgoth”.
