Fauns
Fauns are joyful entertaining naturals that protect nature and the beings that live within through songs, ballets and stories about everything from heroic battles, villainous betrayals and things so beautiful it would make even the most hardened warrior cry.
What is it?:
Fauns are masterful horned storytellers that seek to spread joy to those who would listen to them, provide answers to those questioning them and save those who would heed them, for a Faun is many things to many people, but one thing they are not are liars. In terms of appearance Fauns are hind legged bipeds that tend to stand around 4ft to 6ft, their skin is like a mixture between a Tree Folk’s and a Vekken’s with it being armoured in some places but most it is flexible allows Fauns to jump great distances and climb the highest peaks with no trouble at all, although carved all the way across their body are numerous unknown, ancient and long forgotten magic symbols, it is unknown where these symbols come from who or how they are actually carved onto a Fauns body, but the symbols do explain why these storytellers are able to perform great feats as easily as one would put on a pair of socks. The most interestingly aspect of a Faun is there horns but not because of their appearance or their worth, but because a Faun will often use their horns to heal the injured, the sick and aid the terminal in achieve the peaceful rest they seek, see Faun horns contain a potent magic that is quite rare and that can seemingly heal most injuries and cure most illnesses, unfortunately this is one of the main reasons why Fauns are such a rare sight in the modern age as since their discovery they have been hunted, experimented on and killed all in the name of “medical research”.
Where does it live?:
Fauns typically construct makeshift cabins within whatever part of nature they happen to be in whether it is a lush forest, the land above a lake or the middle an isolated desert. The Cabins themselves are often made out of scrap, wood, rocks, ship parts and pretty much any type of material available, interestingly even without tools, power or any kind of aid Fauns still managed to make a cabin that is homely even to those with travel sickness, whether it is the fireplace burning just right, the home cooked treats, the freshly squeezed fruit juice or the various masterfully handcrafted accessories, Fauns always know how to make a house feel like a home.
What does it do?:
Typically if they aren’t tending to flora, feeding animals or generally being caretakers to nature itself, they are probably talking someone’s or something’s ear off about one thing or another, and while Fauns are well intentioned creatures they can get under even the most meek mannered of people. There are 3 things Fauns love to do more then anything; the first is singing songs about love, loss, sorrow, joy and pain to inspire those who need it most, for it is said that a Faun’s voice can melt hearts just as easily as shatter glass; the second is tell stories about heroes, villains, horrors, wonders and the fantastically to instil wonder to those who have lost their innocence in a sea of blood, rage and pain, this was best capture captain in the tale “The Guard and The Village Girl” where a Faun tells a story that reminds the antagonist of the few happy moments of his life which eventually ends in him allowing the protagonist to live in peace away from The Administration; and the third and final thing is making sure all living things no matter how good or evil they are feel happiness and joy even if it is just a small amount, for in a Fauns eyes no one deserves to be deprived of happiness or joy. Although there is one way you can get a Faun to sit still and shut up, and that’s by telling it an interesting story.
How to kill it?:
There is no reason within any realm that is good enough to warrant killing a Faun, put simply killing a Faun is an act so evil that it could only be performed by the most heartless of individuals and even the most savage of beasts will no even entertain the idea of killing a Faun. Within the modern age The Unity Council has created laws to ensure that Fauns as well as other “peaceful creatures” are protected by the immoral, the trophy hunters and the sick and twist mortals that just get a kick out of killing anything they can get there hands on, in addition many have attempted to argue “self defence” when they have been caught killing a Faun, however as any worthy beast hunter or beastologists will tell you, Fauns are pacifists and there have been no documented accounts within the last 50,000 years of them killing or even harming another living creature.
